They start excited, then lose interest the moment things feel challenging.
Screens and distractions seem more appealing than effort or commitment.
You want your child in sports, but you don’t want to force or pressure them.
You encourage them constantly, but confidence still feels fragile.
You know your child is capable of more, but bringing it out feels like a daily struggle.
The hardest part is not believing in your child.

Let’s be honest.
When kids drift from one activity to the next, it’s easy to wonder if they lack motivation or discipline. In reality, most environments don’t teach children how to face challenge with confidence and support.
The moment something feels uncomfortable, the challenge disappears. Kids are entertained, but rarely guided through difficulty.
Over time, they stop trying not because they lack ability, but because they haven’t learned how to stay with something when it gets hard..
Most children do not lack drive or potential.
They lack exposure to the right kind of challenge.
Confidence is not built by comfort.
Focus is not built by entertainment.
Both are built by learning how to stay present through moments
of small adversity, and discovering they can handle it.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches children how to face challenge in a way few other activities can.

Classes are designed so kids meet the right level of difficulty at the right time—never random, never chaotic.

Kids experience what it feels like to be under pressure—physically and mentally—while being coached, supported, and kept safe.

On the mat, kids learn to stay calm, make decisions, and adjust—even when their heart is racing and things feel tough.

Confidence isn’t talk—it’s repetition. Each class gives your child proof that they can learn, improve, and overcome.
This is why martial arts becomes a life skill, not just a sport.

Hi, I’m Alvin Aguilar, founder of Deftac. I’ve spent most of my life on the mats, working with kids, athletes, and families from all walks of life.
Over the years, I’ve learned that children don’t grow from pressure alone. They grow when they’re guided clearly and surrounded by the right people.
At Deftac, guidance comes from our coaches and from the community itself.
Kids train alongside others learning discipline, effort, and respect together.
The mat becomes a safe space where doubts, fears, and frustration are left behind, and replaced with focus, confidence, and accountability.
This combination of guidance and community is what most schools miss, and what helps growth last.

Train in a World-Class Environment
What makes Deftac different is not just what we teach, but how we teach it.
Step-by-step progression so kids know what they’re working toward and what’s expected of them.
Coach-to-student ratios that give kids the calm, individual attention they need to learn well.
No rushed shortcuts—just consistent practice that builds real skill and real confidence over time.
Built on respect, effort, and accountability—values your child can carry into school and life.

As children train consistently, parents often see changes that reach far beyond the mat.
Better focus, listening, and ability to stay with schoolwork
even when it feels challenging
Greater ability to manage emotions, stay calm, and
reset when things don’t go their way
More confidence speaking up, interacting with others,
and handling group situations
Real-world self-defense skills
For some kids, a natural interest in competition and
deeper training over time
These outcomes come from consistency, not talent.

Our son Giru is six years old, and his dream is to become a World Champion in both BJJ and Wrestling.
His journey began with BJJ in July 2024. In this short time, his dedication has been truly inspiring.
Giru trains five times a week, but the gym is truly his favorite playground. He is always happy learning and spending time with his teammates. For Giru, commitment is fun, and he consistently shows up eager to train and learn.
This year, Giru competed in the prestigious SJJIF World Championship. Watching him fight with skill and heart was unforgettable. Despite his short time training, he brought home a hard-earned Silver Medal in BJJ.
The silver medal has only fueled his determination. Giru is already focused on the 2026 SJJIF World Championship, training hard to turn that silver into gold.
We are incredibly proud to support our little champion in a journey that is a beautiful example of how dedication and passion can make any dream possible.
I started training at Deftac when I was 17 years old back in 2023. I never expected it would have such a profound impact on my life.
Not only physically, but emotionally and just where I'm at in life right now.
It's given me opportunities and experiences I never thought I'd have. Luckily with the support of all of our teammates, our family, and our supportive coaches and professors, I wouldn't change a single thing.
I wouldn't know where I'd be right now without my team and my sport. Let's go Deftac!

Deftac boosted my confidence, my self-esteem, and it makes me feel secure in who I am.
I've been training and representing DEFTAC my whole life. I started when I was 7, and now I'm training at DEFTAC Makati while studying in Manila for college.
When I was a kid, I just wanted to train and have fun. But over the years, I realized it's so much more than grappling. I've learned discipline, how to push my limits, and how to really believe in myself.
I actually remember crying as a junior because I felt small and weak compared to others. But the coaches, my dad, Prof. May, and my teammates always encouraged me to keep going. Over time, I grew stronger, not just physically, but mentally too.
Traveling and competing in Russia and Abu Dhabi was surreal. And seeing Deftac win overall every year? That feeling is something else. You really feel part of a team that gives you everything.
As of now, I'm coaching at Benild under Chief Alvin Aguilar. Seeing my students grow and improve is honestly as rewarding as winning competitions.
For me, it's more than just grappling at Deftac. It's family, growth, and life lessons all in one.
